Overview

Montana INBRE is soliciting proposals from partner institutions for instrumentation, research supplies, educational and research infrastructure, and STEM/Health Science teaching materials. Infrastructure can include lab and teaching equipment, educational resources, software, and hardware that will enhance the biomedical research and teaching capacity at the applicant institution. Successful proposals will be funded up to $50,000 direct costs for the current grant year, which ends April 30, 2025.

Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning January 30, 2025, and continue through February 16, 2025, or until available funds are exhausted. All funding must be expended no later than April 1, 2025.

Eligibility

This call is open to all faculty and administrators located at participating Montana INBRE network institutions. College administrators (presidents, deans, department heads) and faculty in the biomedical, social/behavioral, community health, and nutritional sciences are eligible to apply. Initial priority consideration will be given to proposals originating from outside MSU-Bozeman and UM-Missoula.

Proposal Format and Required Forms

Proposals must include a description of resources requested, a justification for their purchase (including projected number of users), an itemized budget and budget justification, and the name, credentials and position of the individual responsible for oversight and for documenting ongoing outcomes. Proposals should be no longer than 2-3 pages, not including the budget and budget justification pages, and should be submitted on the official NIH form pages linked below.

A complete proposal will include:

  1. A completed Face Page; Use Form Page 1: Face Page and be sure to submit a completed face page signed by your institution’s signing official
  2. A Description of resource(s) requested, a justification for their purchase that includes the projected annual number of users as well as the name, credentials and position of the individual responsible (Equipment Steward) for oversight and for documenting ongoing outcomes for the next five years; Use the Continuation Format Page; limit 2-3 pages max
  3. An Itemized Budget; Use Form Page 5: Budget for Entire Proposed Project Period (February 1, 2025 to April 30, 2025), and be sure to include your institution's indirect costs, if applicable
  4. A Budget Justification; Use the Continuation Format Page; budget justification headers should match those used in the itemized budget
  5. If you are requesting equipment (instrumentation greater than $5,000) a price quote from the manufacturer must be included and verify that the requested equipment is available and can be shipped before April 1, 2025; instrumentation greater than $5000 also requires identifying an "Equipment Steward" (the person responsible for infrastructure oversight and annual reporting for up to five years after the initial funding period).
